I have a little problem with the compiler of FE. The compiler make.pif doesn't work with windows seven 64 bits!
I can't read any user formula.
Does anybody have the solution?
Would be so cool!I'lld be so grateful!
Thanks
Isa (basantis)"

Is there anyone willing to help?
I have windows 32 and have no idea how to solve this!

Thank you so much!

If you are sure that you have downloaded all the separate parts, (FE main program, the landscapes library and the user formula compiler ... see the download area here, [link]) and they are unzipped into the main FE program folder and it still doesn't work ... even when running an emulator, then the only solution I have found that works reliably is to keep an old PC running Windows XP. :-(

Although the release date for the user formula compiler is given as 2001, in reality it hasn't changed from the earlier releases. It is sad that this lovely little program is fading away for want of a community to pick it up and up-date it. I'm not a programmer ... but if there are programmers out there ... it would be a wonderful thing to do!

I find how to use it by downlading FE in C/Programmes (not 86). I can't open a spot but I can use a formula.
I wanted to say it you before but my ex husband died on january the 16th and I had to take care of his cremation, and yet I must do a lot of papers and help our sons (they are twelwe).
Thanks to all who answered me!
For the julia window I don't have any solution yet, but I'll try to find one!
THANKS!

I use a Mac with Parallels (a virtual machine). I have Windows XP on that.
I can't ever use the compiler. I've downloaded it several times... :(
I recently tried to open a spot file from SallyHunter and had a refusal each time. "Can't find the compiler."

I'll read what everyone says here.

I imagine it's also because the programme is old and not updated.

Try this: Don't use the fractal explorer in program files but in program files (x86).
Fractal explorer is an old program, not made for 64 bits OS. I had it working with W7, but always in the (x86) folder. You don't even have to put it in that folder to make it work. FE is a stand-alone type of program.

As for Mario: User formulaes have to be written apart from the program. I think there is a complier to get you the actual formula you need to put in the FE. I don't use that feature in years. So I can't tell for sure.
As for the Julia window, you never get the transfer. I never did in any version I used. You have to see in the bottom the coordinates and then transfer those coordinates to the formulae window (using the Julia variation on, of course)

Hope that helps.

I do have a 64 bit PC running under Windows 7 and Fractal Explorer runs pretty well as a 32 bit as Program Files (x86). There are two problems which I am aware of and seems to be what you are experiencing:
1. I cannot compile user formulas neither I can write and compile my own, and
2. The Julia window you get with Ctrl+J cannot be transferred to the main windows.
In both cases I tried to use the compatibility setting for various old Windows versions with negative results.
I am sorry for the bad news :(

The link is from the Official Windows7 Forum. From what I could gather 32bit software should run fine. The problem comes in with older 16bit software that would run on XP, barely on Vista and not at all on W7-64 running 64 bit OS.
Run the compatibility checker they mention and then go from there.
Another stab in the dark would be to do a clean install of FE and try again. If you still have your old PC keep it to run FE.
